The competition schedule for the Tokyo Olympic Games has been released. Women’s 10m air rifle shooting event will be the first medal event of the Games. The event is scheduled to take place on 24th July, a day after the opening ceremony. Indian shooter Elavenil Valarivan is ranked no.1 in this event while compatriots Anjun Moudgil and Apurvi Chandela are positioned at 4th and 7th spot respectively.
10m men’s air pistol event in shooting and Women’s 49kg category in Weightlifting is the schedule on July 24. Indian athletes are expected to make a podium finish in these two events. Saurabh Chaudhary and Abhishek Verma had shared the four World Cup golds in the men’s 10m air pistol event in 2019. Mirabai Chanu is ranked no.4 in Women’s 49kg but with only one quota allowed per NOC means that only one out of the top two ranked Chinese weightlifter will be allowed to compete which makes Chanu a hot favourite to find herself in the podium.
Tokyo Olympics will be featuring a total of 339 medal events in 33 sports and will be held across 42 venues. The opening ceremony will happen on 23 July but the competitions will begin two days before on 21 July with softball action in Fukushima.
Indian Men’s Hockey will kick off their campaign on 24 July, while the women’s team will face World Champions Netherlands in its opening encounter on the same day.
Boxing and Badminton contests will also start from 24th. India is expected to bring home medals in these two disciplines.
Wrestling competitions will be going on between 1st to 7th August. Events of World Championship medalists Deepak Punia, Ravi Dahiya and Vinesh Phogat will commence on 1st August with their medal matches scheduled for the next day. 3 time World Championship medalists Bajrang Punia will kick off his campaign on 2nd August and his medal contests will be played on 3rd August
Highest of 34 medal events will be held on 7 August. Games will close on 8 August.
