English County Club Sussex has suspended fast bowler for using hand sanitizer on a cricket ball during the match against Middlesex in the Bob Willis Trophy last month. With this, the 37-year-old Australian player will not take part in Sussex’s next game against Surrey as well.
“Mitch Claydon is suspended pending the outcome of an ECB allegation of placing hand sanitiser on the ball in our match against Middlesex. There will be no further comment at this stage,” Sussex said in an official statement.
The incident was done by Claydon during the first innings of the game where the pace bowler claimed three wickets.
Meanwhile, the ICC has banned the use of saliva to shine the ball amid the crunch situation of COVID-19 pandemic which has brought the entire world into a standstill since mid-March. All the sporting events across the globe was put on a hold owing to the pandemic and recently the situation gets better as the cricketing events stars taking place.
On the other hand, Claydon is an experienced fast bowler who has played 112 First-Class matches, 110 List-A games and 147 T20Is so far. Apart from that, he has 310 First-Class wickets which also included 11 five wicket-hauls and nine 10-fers as well. In List A and T20 cricket, Claydon has picked up 138 and 159 wickets respectively too.
Meanwhile, South Africa player David Wiese has been added in the team and will be available for selection along with James Coles and Ali Orr who are 16-year-old and 19-year-old respectively.
