Jasprit Bumrah Biography

The second match of the IPL 2013 witnessed a blockbuster match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Mumbai Indians. RCB are batting first in a jampacked Sri Chinnaswamy Stadium, often called a batsman’s paradise for its flat pitch and short outfield. And on the pitch are two of the biggest hitters of the game- Virat Kohli and Chris Gayle. Could you ask for a worse setting for a bowler’s debut? Well, the evening was going to get a lot more bad for a 19-year-old debutant Jasprit Bumrah.

Bumrah takes his runup, bowls in his unorthodox sling-arm action with a peculiar release point. Bowls short and wide outside off. The result- slammed over cover for a four. Second delivery slammed wide of cover for another four. Fourth delivery: another loose ball, same result. Boundary over cover. Four balls, three 4s.

Honestly, one would want the over to end as soon as possible. But not Jasprit Bumrah. In the next delivery, he bowls from wide of the crease getting a sharp inward angle.

Kohli fails to read the ball. He is exactly in front of the stumps and the ball hits his pads. The roaring crowd goes silent in a moment.
