Women’s cricket has come to a long way post the 2017 Women’s World Cup. However, like the men’s cricket, women’s cricket too got affected due to the global pandemic novel coronavirus. But the scenario has been changing slowly and the game has started taking place as well – be it national or domestic cricket. However, it was in September last year when England last played international cricket in the home against the West Indies women’s team. They won the series and stumped their sheer dominance as well. In a recent tweet, England cricket wrote, “It’s been a while since our Women were in ODI action! Can you name the missing players from the XI? 1. Beaumont 2. Wyatt 3. Sciver 4. Knight 5. 6. 7. Brunt 8. 9. 10. Shrubsole 11. Davies.”
But, a user took to that and left a comment on the low popularity of women’s cricket as he tweeted, “Does anyone care about women’s cricket?”. However, it didn’t go well with the England women’s cricketer Alex Hartley who replied in a befitting way. The veteran spinner showed a few pictures, which also included the final match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2020 between Australia and India that had a record attendance of 86,174. Along with that, she also shared a picture from the 2017 Women’s World Cup final between India and England as well.Hartley’s picture of the record attendance was of the Melbourne Cricket Ground and the game showed the sheer popularity of women’s cricket as well. Although Team India lost the final as Australia won by a huge margin, fans got to enjoy a thrilling final too. Even the final match became the most attended women’s cricket match in the history of the game as well.
As far as Alex Hartley’s game is concerned, she made her debut for England way back in 2016 and so far, played 28 ODIs and four T20Is as well. She has claimed 39 and 3 wickets respectively. And, she also has a couple of four-wicket hauls as well.
