Vangipurapu Venkata Sai Laxman was born on November 1, 1974 in the then Andhra Pradesh capital of Hyderabad. Both of his parents are doctors and he too studied Medical Science for a short period of time but quit it later to play professional cricket. He went to the Little Flower High School, Hyderabad for his received his preliminary education. Now starts the VVS Laxman biography of cricket.
Laxman made his first-class debut for Hyderabad against Punjab in the quarter-final match of 1992–93 Ranji Trophy. He made his way into the South Zone squad for the 1994/95 Duleep Trophy having impressed for the India Under-19s. However, he failed to live up to the expectations in the tournament. In the same year, Laxman notched up 532 runs from five matches at an average of 76 in Ranji Trophy.
That was followed by another brilliant outing in the Ranji season next year, where he piled up as much as 775 runs in just 11 innings. Those numbers had arrived at an average of 86 which also included 3 centuries and a best of 203* against Karnataka. With superb performance, he received a call to play for Rest of India against Karnataka in Irani Cup and also in the Board President’s XI squad.
Laxman had amazing international career
With stellar domestic performance, Laxman grabbed eyes of selection committee. VVS at last made his international Test debut in 1996 in the match against South Africa at Ahmedabad. VVS was also asked to open the innings, starting in West Indies in 1997. He went on to score 64 in his first innings as an opener at Kingston.
Though he was selected in the Test squad that toured New Zealand in 1998, he did not get to play a single game. Later, he was selected to don ODI jersey but Laxman scored a duck on his ODI debut against Zimbabwe in the Pepsi Tri-Series in 1998. He had a horrible run in the ODIs as a result, he was him getting dropped from the team for more than a year.
Laxman went back to domestic cricket in 1999–2000. He broke the record for most runs in a Ranji season when he made 1415 runs, at an average of 108, in 9 matches. His performance didn’t go unnoticed. VVS was rewarded in January 2000 with a recall to the national squad.
Laxman played IPL with Deccan Chargers
Laxman was originally named as the icon player for his home franchise Deccan Chargers in the inaugural season of Indian Premier League (IPL). But the humble man gave up the Icon Player status in a bid to allow his team spends a bigger amount at the auction. The Deccan named him the captain for the first season. However, he struggled with the bat in 2009 and 2010.
In 2011, Laxman signed the contract with newly formed franchise of Kochi Tuskers Kerala. This time, though, he was injured after the first three games and missed the rest of the season. In 2012, Laxman, found no buyers. From 2013, he is appointed as a mentor for Sunrisers Hyderabad.

VVS Laxman, along with Rahul Dravid, shares the world record for the highest partnership (376 Runs) in third innings of a Test match against Australia. VVS also remains one of only the six Indian Test batsmen to score 100 runs or more in a single Test match session. Laxman also holds a record of catching most number of times (12) in a single ODI series (n the 2003-04 VB series). VVS shares the record with Australia’s Allan Border. In early 2004, when India was playing a tri-series in Australia, Laxman hit up three ODI hundreds in a span of one week.

Laxman was born to V Shantaram and V Satyabhama. In 2004, Laxman tied knot with a computer science post-graduate, GR Sailaja. Shailaja completed her post graduation in computer applications.
