Rohit Sharma Does to Stay Fit

Rohit Sharma is known for his big sixes in the limited overs cricket. His record for the  highest ODI score of 264 from 173 balls at Eden Gardens against Sri Lanka could not even be imagined to be broken. He is the only cricketer to score 3 double centuries in ODIs and 4 centuries in T20Is.

The Hitman has hit 202 sixes in ODIs and 98 other in T20Is. He is only 5 sixes behind Chris Gayle and Martin Guptil in T20Is to achieve this elusive record. The Mumbai batsman has scored 7454 runs in 193 ODI matches at an impressive average of 47.78, including 21 centuries. In T20Is, he has amassed 2237 runs in 90 games at an average of 32.9 and a strike rate of 138.17.

Let us take a look at what the ‘Hitman’ does to stay fit:

Rohit Sharma Diet and Tips:

Rohit has transformed himself from unfit to fit and his secret is the consumption of eggs. It might come to you as a great surprise that he is from a strict vegetarian background, yet he eats dozens of eggs. Shockingly, he once had 25 eggs in one time.

Rohit starts his day with proteins. He consumes oats and milk in the morning. He says,” If you don’t have much liking for oats, then try consuming it in small quantities at first. And when you start liking it somewhat (or its taste becomes bearable) then you may want to eat it in large quantities.”

He urges to have a protein drink in the morning. It helps to develop your muscles in the easiest manner possible. He tells,”Try some nicely flavored protein shakes in the beginning as they would help you to develop a fondness for them too.”

In an interview to healthyceleb.com, Rohit says that his major problem was eating a lot during the late night hours, due to which he wasn’t able to lose weight. He understood this issue and restricted his last meal to be around 8 pm only.

He advises,”If you are facing problems in letting go off the habit of midnight snacking then you can try out a simple routine. Start getting up early in the morning and have a healthy breakfast. This early morning rising habit would ensure that you feel too sleepy to eat anything at night. Remember the old saying “Early to bed, early to rise, makes a person healthy, wealthy and wise.”

The Indian limited overs vice-captain has green tea on a regular basis. His breakfast consists of eggs and carrot juice. Lunch is usually home made – Nachani (finger millet) roti and brown rice. He has a fruit in the evening. Dinner is light which usually consists of grilled chicken or a salad.

Low Carb Diet:

Rohit follows a low carb diet. Here are the benefits of a low carb diet.

    • A low carb diet helps improve your metabolism and helps you remove wastes from your body at a quick rate.
    • It helps you to stay away from bad cholesterol and increases the amount of healthy cholesterol in your body.
    • With this diet blood sugars are controlled and insulin levels are minimised.
    • They have a beneficial impact on heart diseases.
    • The diet makes you fuller so that you don’t crave food as you did in the past.

Rohit Sharma Workout Routine:

The right-hander spends a lot of time with his personal trainer in the fitness centre. Rohit focuses more on core exercises like crunches, leg raises and of course pushups and pulls ups as they enhance her or his muscle tone and help anyone to lose excessive weight.

Rohit tells magzter.com that his fitness regime has drastically changed over the years. In the initial stages of his career he didn’t have much knowledge about fitness but over the years he educated himself and learnt what it takes to nurture his body.

Cricketer Abhishek Nayar helped Rohit a couple of years back in order to regain his fitness, and made him undergo quite a number of strange and rigorous exercises.

“When the ground was being restructured, I made Rohit go and dig up the grounds and put sand in like a construction worker. I even made him chop wood, lift tyres and walk in a tank full of wet clay,” Nayar was quoted as saying to Economic Times.

Whey Protein:

  • Whey is the highest source of protein available. Whey protein is one of two types of protein that comes from milk (the other being casein protein). Whey is a by-product that is created during the process of cow’s milk being turned into cheese.
  • It provides the body with the perfect amino acid profile for muscle building, strength and recovery. It also helps to increase size, strength and speed up the recovery time.
  • Whey protein also works as an antioxidant to boost the body’s immune system. Studies have shown that it gives strength to the immune system.
  • It increases lean muscle mass and reduces post-workout muscle breakdown.
