Mirabai Chanu betters her own national record to win gold in National Weightlifting Championships

Weightlifter Mirabai Chanu smashed her own national record in Women’s 49kg Category, lifting 203kg at the
National Weightlifting Championships in Kolkata on Tuesday.

The 2017 World Championship gold medalist lifted 88kg in snatch and 115kg in the clean & jerk to break her own previous record of 201kg which had lifted in the World Championship held last year.

The Commonwealth Games gold medalist is one of the best medal prospects for India in the Tokyo Olympics. She is expected to recieve tough competition from lifters of China and North Korea.

Youth Olympics Gold medalist, Jeremy Lalrinunga also clinched gold. He lifted a total of 299kg in Men’s 67kg category, which was 7kg short of his best effort of 306kg which had achieved in the Qatar International Cup.
