Maharashtra Government To Reopen Fitness Centers And Gyms

The Maharashtra government has allowed gyms and fitness centers to reopen with several constraints amid the ongoing pandemic COVID-19. The decision came at the time of the Hindu festival Dussehra and allowed the gyms and fitness centers to resume from October 25.

CM Uddhav Thackeray communicated with deputies of several fitness centers and gyms in the state today to establish a standard working system for their services. Precautionary steps for COVID-19 were examined during the virtual meeting. Activities like Zumba, steam bath, sauna, and Yoga will continue to be banned at fitness centers.

Precautionary measures such as disinfecting premises every hour, following social distancing norms, sanitization, and use of masks would be compulsory, Thackeray said. He added that health checks of trainers and employees should be done regularly.

The Central Government in July had published a notice permitting all gyms and yoga centers in the country to open from August 5. Following this, the Maharashtra government had allowed outdoor centers for gymnastics and exercise to operate from August 5, following norms of social-distancing and hygiene. Gym owners in the state have been demanding from the government for several weeks to support the opening of their gyms and fitness centers after being financially crashed due to the lockdown.

Maharashtra registered 10,259 fresh COVID-19 cases today that took the overall case count to 15,86,321. The death toll increased to 41,965 as 250 patients died today. India’s overall COVID-19 toll went past 74 lakh today.
