Kerala Blasters to play Home matches in Kozhikode?

Today the Kozhikode corporation in presence of officials of Kerala Blasters, Architects held a meeting to discuss allotting the EMS Corporation stadium, Kozhikode present home ground to Kerala Blasters from 2020/21 season.The stadium hosted the Kerala Premier League final were the Yellow Army won their first ever silverware this year beating Gokulam Kerala FC in shootouts
When news about the same came up last year Gokulam Kerala president VC Praveen welcome the move, citing how it will help reduction in costs due to stadium sharing.

Football fans of Malabar region of Kerala will be excited as now both ISL and I League matches set to excite the fans in the region although its unsure whether we would see fans allowed in matches next season.A large fans of Kerala Blasters from South Kerala especially Kochi would be disappointed seeing their club move away 200 km north of them.
Kerala Blasters were also asked to find agencies who are willing to raise funds for the renovation works.With the current state of Economy with the COVID-19 crisis looming it might be difficult to get funding.
While with the Local Self government elections in Kerala to happen later this year, it may be a masterstroke by left ruled Kozhikode corporation, at a time when Kerala blasters fans were unhappy with the Kochi corporation ruled by Congress led UDF alliance.
The meeting presided by mayor of Kozhikode asked Kerala Blasters evaluate the present condition of the stadium and give a detailed estimate for the works which will fulfill the minimum criteria which include:

1.Pitch Condition:
Drainage system
The pitch of EMS stadium is OK but the drainage system is not upto the mark

2. Flood light
Last season Gokulam Kerala had to install temporary lights for their I League games.Lights are very poor and it need serious revamp for high quality telecast of Star Sports.

3. WiFi and CCTV systems.

4. Toilet
Stadium Gallery currently don’t have toilets which shall be provided.

5. Pavilion
A separate pavilion should be provided for players and VVIPs entrances which isn’t available.

6. Parking, Traffic Issues
The stadium located situated right at the focal point of the city does not have enough parking spaces.With ISL matches coming with VIPs parking issues will be there and traffic blocks should be sorted out with proper planning.
