The India Cricket Team‘s 2017 calendar started with a blockbuster tie against England. In the first ODI in Pune, the visitors had piled a massive score of 350 batting first. For the Men in Blue, on the other hand, the target looked anything but achievable as the team struggled at 63/4. The usual saviours, MS Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh had also returned back to the pavilion early on as well. But just when everything seemed to go out of hands, a local boy named Kedar Jadhav entered the ground to partner up with skipper Virat Kohli.


And to the shock of many, the duo went on to put a colossal partnership of over 200 runs. Jadhav hit 120 from just 76 balls to help India win their first match of the series. Not only had he won the Man of the Match award, but he had also cemented his place in the starting XI.

But all was not the same for this lad from Pune. Having been highly rated in the domestic circles with his consistent performances, Kedar always received a cold shoulder when it came to getting selected for the national team. But he never quite lost his patience and ultimately wore the famous Blue Jersey at the age of 29.


Today, he is the preferred lower middle-order batsman for the national team in ODIs. A handy part-time off-spinner, Kedar has earned his reputation for being a quality allrounder for the country as well as the IPL side Chennai Super King.

Kedar Jadhav was born to Mahadev and Mandakini Jadhav on 26 March 1985 in Pune. His was a middle-class family. Originally hailing from Jadhavwadi in Solapur district’s Madha, the Jadavs had migrated to Pune in the 1980s. Kedar’s father was a clerk at the Maharastra State Electricity board.

Kedar was the youngest of four children. But while his three elder sisters were great at studies, the youngster was anything but interested in education. The resultant, he dropped in the ninth standard and decided to play cricket full time.

Jadhav’s early teenage year were spend as a tennis-ball star in the small world of Praramhans Nagar. Jadhav used to play for the Rainbow CC, and the team started to win any tournament- from 2 over per side to 25-over per side.

Kedar’s father released playing tennis ball cricket would not take his son anywhere.

Within three years of moving into his transition into serious cricket, Kedar Jafav was called-up for the U19 Maharashtra team in 2004. After a brief time warming the bench, Jadhav made his first appearance against Kerala, Jadav scored 195 at the Nehru Stadium in Pune.

With a conventional playing style and attitude to back him, Jadhav had to struggle to become a regular for Maharashtra. Kedar made his domestic debut in 2007 season. However, Jadav was widely used as a lower middle-order batsman. It was not until he was promoted up the order that Raydu got a chance to perform and shine.

In the 2012-13 season, and he made his first triple century. Jadhav scores 327 runs against Uttar Pradesh in the Ranji Trophy. The following season, the Punekar scored 1233 runs with 6 centuries to end as the season’s highest runscorer. Jadhav also played for India A and West Zone cricket teams.

Jadhav has played 74 First-Class matches for Maharashtra, scoring 4945 runs at an average of 46.21 with 13 tons and 9 fifties.

His performances in the 2012-13 and 2013-14 season ensured the BCCI’s eyes fell upon him. He was named in the National team squad for the tour of Bangladesh in 2014 but was not called upon. On his debut in the fifth ODI of Sri Lanka’s tour of India. Kedar did not have the best of his day as he got stumped after scoring only 20 runs.

Jadhav took some time to get adjusted within the Men in Blue colours. However, when he did, Jadhav scored an unbeaten inning of 105* against 7. In January 2017, the Maharashtrian scored 120 off 76 balls and shared a 200-run partnership against England on his home ground. There were times when he even outclassed Virat Kohli in the run chase.

Jadhav then has become an important part of the Indian middle order. ICC awarded the run-getter as the man of the tournament after scoring in 235 runs in the 2017 CT. After a challenging 2018, in which he was injured. He also represented India in the ICC World Cup 2019.

2018 – Difficult Times

The year 2018 was a little difficult for him due to his injuries. However, Jadhav was fortunate enough to have found support from the team and the management. This helped him to come back stronger. He played a crucial role in the India-Australia series in 2019. With the World Cup squad almost finalizing, Jadhav is a strong contender for the number 6 spot.

Every time I have got fit, I have walked into the team. Jadhav made his T20 debut against Zimbabwe in 2015 scoring only 9 runs. Unfortunately, Jadhav has played 9 T20Is, where he scored 122 runs at a strike rate of 123.23 and an average of 20.33.

Kedar Jadav was initially a part of the Royal Challengers Bangalore development squad. However, he was drafted in by Delhi and became an overnight sensation after scoring a 29-ball 50 for Delhi against RCB on his Indian Premier League debut.

The next season, Kochi Tuskers Kerala signed him. However, his disappointing performance meant even they dropped him with just 6 games in his name. However, the Delhi Daredevils came back for his signature.

He stayed for the next two seasons with the team from the capital but as the disappointing performances continued, he was traded to the RCB.

His IPL 2017 season was by far his best season. He scored 267 runs with an average of 22.25 and a strike rate of 143.54. The following season Chennai Super Kings purchased him, hoping he could play as a lower-middle-order position and provide the support to Dhoni in finishing matches.

However, he didn’t feature in the tournament after tearing his hamstring in the opening match. In IPL 2019, Jadav was called upon to play the same role CSK wanted him at last year. However, Jadhav had an average season.
