Eurosport set to broadcast NJPW in India from 9th January SGADF INDIA

The year 2021 is starting to look marvellous for the pro-wrestling fanbase in India as Eurosport has decided, through Eurosport HD India, to broadcast the world-famous Japanese professional wrestling promotion New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW) in the country from 9th January onwards.

Although the Indian pro-wrestling fandom had seen the monopoly of WWE in popularity in the past, there has been a gainful increase in the fanbase of other franchises in recent times as well.

Pro-wrestling audience in India to enjoy NJPW telecast every Saturday and Sunday

Considering New Japan Pro-Wrestling, the second-largest pro-wrestling property in the world has seen a massive fan following in the country, Eurosport, the premium sports channels from the house of Discovery, is set to bring in the official broadcast of NJPW, starting from this Saturday from 6 pm IST.

All premium fixtures and headlining events from the 48-year-old franchise, such as Wrestle Kingdom, New Japan Cup, Best of Super Juniors, G1 Climax and many more out of the NJPW calendar will be telecasted every Saturday and Sunday on 6 pm.“India has a potent fan base for pro-wrestling and with the addition of New Japan Pro-Wrestling, Eurosport- the only destination which connects passionate fans with greatest sports events in the world is taking a major step towards providing quality sports content to the Indian audiences,” Discovery South Asia Head of Sports Business and Senior Vice President of Affiliate sales Vijay Rajput said.

“New Japan Pro-Wrestling is very excited to partner with the best sporting network in the world to reach out to the Indian audience,” Takami Ohbari, the President and Representative Director of New Japan Pro-Wrestling asserted, “India’s passion for professional wrestling is a known fact and with Eurosport we surely make the perfect tag-team to provide some of the best action from the world of pro-wrestling and fuel the desire of the Indian fans.”Founded on 13th January 1972 by former Japanese wrestler and mixed martial artist Antonio Inoki, NJPW is the largest professional wrestling promotion in Japan and second largest in the world.

NJPW has formerly been affiliated with National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) several times, as well as had agreements with WWE, WCW, Impact Wrestling, Ring of Honor and many more.

Presently owned by Japanese card game company Bushiroad, NJPW’s current roster includes some of the biggest pro-wrestling stars such as the double IWGP Heavyweight and Intercontinental Champion Kota Ibushi, Jay White, Will Ospreay, Hiroshi Tanahashi and Tetsuya Naito.
