The 2020 Caribbean Premier League aka CPL 2020, 8th season of the domestic T20 cricket tournament of West Indies is entering its semi final stage from on tomorrow, 7th September. The first semi final match is between Trinbago Knight Riders and Jamaica Tallawahs and to be held at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy, Tarouba.

Trinbago Knight Riders

Eyeing their fourth CPL silverware, Trinbago Knight Riders have been absolutely flawless this season. Lead by Kieron Pollard, they have won 10 out of 10 group stage matches, with a staggering 1.294 net run rate.

Their star studded lineup featuring Dwayne Bravo, who is the team’s leading run scorer, with 239 runs in the ten group stage matches. Along with Bravo, both Lendl Simmons and the marvellous in-form Sunil Narine, all who missed the last match, will be back in action tomorrow.

Jamaica Tallawahs

The two time CPL champions Jamaica Tallawahs did not have a great run this season. They have secured only three victories out of the ten matches in group stage, and finished fourth in the table with 7 points. However, the Jamaica players have shined in their individual performances this season.

Glenn Phillips and Mujeeb Ur Rahman are the team’s top stalwarts, both being the leaders of most runs and most wickets this season respectively. Phillips has scored 314 runs, while Rahman picked 15 wickets in the 10 matches. The young Nepalese spinner Sandeep Lamichhane has also impressed with 12 scalps.

Full squad: Chadwick Walton, Glenn Phillips (wk), Jermaine Blackwood, Asif Ali, Rovman Powell (c), Nkrumah Bonner, Carlos Brathwaite, Sandeep Lamichhane, Fidel Edwards, Veerasammy Permaul, Mujeeb Ur Rahman

Waging odds: Trinbago Knight Riders (1.55) vs Jamaica Tallawahs (1.56)

The three time champions Trinbago Knight Riders are the waging favourites, and are priced at 1.55, meaning if you bet ₹100 on them and if they win tomorrow’s match, you’ll be making ₹155.

On the other hand, Jamaica Tallawahs are priced at 1.56, and are the underdogs. Betting ₹100 on them will earn you a clean ₹156, if they snatch a victory in the match tomorrow.

Our prediction:

It will be hard to topple Trinbago Knight Riders from their stupendous winning streak, and they have won both of their bouts against Jamaica in the group stage. With the batting options such as Bravo, Pollard and Colin Munro, plus the bowling squad including Fawad Ahmed and Narine, the three time champions are heading into the semis with colossal confidence.

While Jamaica Tallawahs have performed substantially worse in comparison, they have Phillips and Rahman’s equally stupefying performance in both batting and bowling department. Add to that the experience of Andre Russell and the eye catching youngster Lamichhane, Jamaican players will definitely put up a tough challenge.

It will be a neck to neck fight for both teams, but considering their superb performance this season, Trinbago Knight Riders will seal a win and head for the CPL 2020 final.
