Boxing Federation of India planning to start Olympic camp from June 10

The Boxing Federation of India (BFI) is planning to start National Camp for Olympic-bound boxers from June 10, 2020, in Patiala. The decision was made last day at a video conference held between boxers that qualified for the Olympics and BFI Officials.

"This is the plan going forward. Boxers were of the view that there is no substitute for formal training at the camp even though they have all done pretty well on their own so far," a federation official was quoted by the PTI.

The camp will be for both male and female boxers and the female boxers who usually train at the Delhi IG Stadium will be training at NIS Patiala this time around.

The decision, interestingly, comes amidst the SOP released by the Sports Authority of India which barred sparring and the usage of boxing rings. A record number of nine boxers have qualified for the Tokyo Olympics so far from India and all of them are expected to join the camp which is planned to start on June 10.

It was earlier reported that the boxers who will be part of the camp will get cover for COVID-19 in their medical insurance. This is as per the new SOP that was made by the Boxing Federation of India.

India has been battling with the Coronavirus Pandemic for the past few months with over 132 Thousand confirmed cases of the virus infection in the nation. More than 3800 deaths have also been reported as of writing.
