Asian Games 2018

Unfortunately, Anjum couldn’t qualify for the finals of the Jakarta Palembang Asian Games 2018 as she finished 9th in the qualifications. It was quite a heart-breaking tournament for her. She represented India in the 50 m three position shooting event.

“Missing out on a medal at the Asian Games was a disappointment but then it was due to one bad series. We came here on the 23rd and it meant I could spend the last 3-4 day training at the 10m Air Rifle range. A medal here in the 10m Air Rifle event was one of the targets. I missed the final at the World Cup held here earlier this year but that helped me understand the conditions here,” Moudgil told the Indian Express.

ISSF

At the ISSF World Cup 2018, Anjum won the silver medal in women’s 50m rifle 3 positions event. The podium finish was doubly special as it ensured a Tokyo Olympics 2020 berth for her. Hana Im from Korea won the top-most honour and Eunhea Jung from Korea as well, won the bronze medal in the event.

“I used to enjoy shooting but I was still not very serious about shooting as a career. Because I never had a coach, I never knew how it is to work with a coach. So asking seniors was okay with me. But when I saw others having personal coaches and shooting well, it was my luck that [Deshpande] got into the Indian team as a coach and everything changed. She knew how to build up our basics and our technique. So that’s when we started shooting seriously as coach and student,” she told the Scroll.in.
