Her mother, Putul Singh, is also a former MP from Bihar. She has an elder sister, Mansi Singh.

Early Life

Her grandfather encouraged her to pursue shooting. Shreyasi was fortunate to get guidance from Olympian Mansher Singh. Right after her 10th std exams, she started training hard. She has always been tremendously inspired by Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore and received a lot of encouragement from him.

Throughout her college education at Hansraj College in Delhi, she received support and help from her authorities. This enabled her to successfully complete her Graduation in Arts. She further went on to pursue an MBA from Manav Rachna International University.

The Difficult Period

Just when she had started her senior career, Shreyasi lost her father due to a brain haemorrhage. It was a very trying period for the family and Singh couldn’t give her full focus to the shooting. She showed immense strength, picked herself up, and came back stronger. Extra hard work and tweaking her technique helped her get back into the game.

Shooting Journey

Shreyasi won the yellow metal at the National Shooting Championships in 2012. In 2013, she participated in the Trap Shooting World Cup in Mexico. Here, she finished at the 15th position.

Shreyasi’s medal-winning streak began in 2014. She won the bronze medal at the Incheon Asian Games. She found success in the double trap event. In 2017, Shreyasi won the silver medal at the Commonwealth Shooting Championships.

The Golden Moment

“I was definitely nervous but at the same time confident. Does that make sense? Actually, I was prepared for a fight, I was not going to give up no matter what. I would have fought until whatever time it was necessary to get this medal. If you ask me what I feel right now, it is pure happiness,” she told PTI after her historical gold at CWG 2018.

Shreyasi had her golden moment at the 2018 CWG in Gold Coast, Australia. She shot a 96 to clench the gold medal from Australian Emma Cox.

“This is the highest medal of my career, right up there. It is also very special because shooting is not going to be a part of the Commonwealth Games in 2022,” Singh told NDTV in an interview after her win.

She has previously participated in the tournament in 2010 and 2014 as well. In 2010, she missed out on the podium finish as came sixth and seventh in trap and pair trap events respectively.

“She took up shooting in 2006 and forayed into professional trapshooting from 2007, after which she won a gold medal in the junior single trap event in the national shooting competition in 2008. Shreyasi is currently ranked 18 in the world ranking in women’s trap,” proud sister Mansi told TOI after her 2010 win.
