Sports minister Kiren Rijiju inaugurated a 162-bed residential hostel at the premises of the Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range in the country’s capital on Thursday.
The entire facility boasts world-class amenities starting with an air-conditioned dining area for the guests. The structure also took out Rs 12.26 crore from the budget of the Sports Authority of India.
Kiren Rijiju, following the inauguration of the facility, claimed that the athletes deserve the best for their hard work which gets the country recognition at international events such as the Asian Games, Commonwealth Games and the Olympics.The minister also sent out a tweet which read, “Inaugurated the newly constructed, 162 bedded, world class Sports Hostel at the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range in New Delhi. The Sports Hostel is a beautiful building which has premium facilities like Air Conditioned Rooms, Utility Area for Athletes, a Spacious Dining Area,”
He also went on to mention that with the complex being a shooting range, measures will be taken to ensure that the shooters are taken care of. Moreover, he also wishes the inclusion of a separate women’s hostel going forward.
“Shooting being a priority sport, we have to take all the necessary steps for the shooters,” he said.
2018 Commonwealth Games gold-medallist in the 25m air pistol event, Anish Bhanwala was all praise for the newly inaugurated hostel. He mentioned that the inclusion of a hostel in the complex is a blessing of sorts.
“We have always had a very good shooting range but we were lacking a hostel as a result of which we had to stay outside the premises. We can now train in the morning and afternoon session with the hostel being there,”
The sports minister put out another tweet praising the sports hostel and shared more images of the facility as well.
“This is truly a world-class building with proper facilities. The unprecedented scale of sports infrastructures being created in India in last few years is the testimony of how much Prime Minister @NarendraModi Ji is committed to develop sports in India
